BULIMIA TREATMENT – Eating Disorder Program for Veterans

What is Bulimia?

“Bulimia nervosa” is an eating disorder characterized by episodes of binge eating, followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging, fasting and/or excessive exercise. These dangerous attempts to lose or maintain weight can have a devastating impact on physical and mental health.

Those trapped in vicious “binge and purge” cycles often suffer from a distorted sense of self and have issues coping with their emotions. However, with treatment, it is possible to regain control over damaging thoughts and behaviors and find the way back to health.

For Boys With Eating Disorders, Finding Treatment Can Be Hard – NPR

Last year, Kathy Noyes began to notice that her 12-year-old son, Jonathan, was eating more than usual. She caught him eating late at night. She found empty peanut butter jars and chip and cookie bags stashed around the house. That’s when she realized something was seriously wrong. She took Jonathan to a doctor who diagnosed him with the eating disorder bulimia nervosa.
